The four-year project, still in progress, involves the development of an integrated bird monitoring program, divided into monitoring schemes aimed at: 1) collection of data on distribution, density and evolution of the bird species; b) definition of the conservation state; c) development of annual indices on a local scale based on the population size; d) marking the relationships between habitat characteristics and abundance of species; e) identifying the causes of variation in density and distribution of populations; f) to suggest guidelines for the management plan for maintaining, restoring and improving the populations; g) identifying a first proposal for priority actions for the conservation of species and habitats; h) provide guidance to implement the measures envisaged; i) monitoring the effects and effectiveness of conservation actions within the territory subject; j) to provide guidance for the preparation, implementation and review of the Management Plan.

The integrated bird monitoring Program is divided into the following formats:

1. Atlas of breeding birds;

2. Ecology study of the species of breeding birds of All. I Dir 79/409/EEC and conservation interest – Curlew (Burhinus oedicnemus) and Nightjar (Caprimulgus europaeus);

3. Mapping of territories of nesting species of conservation interest;

4. Study of ecology, migration and wintering of the Hen Harrier (Circus cyaneus), the Hen Pale (Circus macrourus) and Marsh Harrier (Circus oeruginosus);

5. Monitoring of migratory birds with scientific ringing.
