have you got enough time to live green?

The busy life of nowadays often stop taking time in the nature: we are office-bound, lunch break at the bar or at the canteen, and when we’re at home we watch TV.

But what does it happen if Nature and all parks give us the opportunity to spend time immersed in the green? The Project “hABITAt” starts from the idea to live urban green in a new way, giving easily spaces related to our daily live. In the park there’s an environment which looks like a flat.

Building and Nature, internal and external borders, melt and merge together: walls are made of bushes, instead of the roof there is the sky with clouds. There is an osmosis between house and park, an osmosis bringing to rediscover not only the beauty of staying outside, but also the use of time for a new way of living.

The project forms with borders of pyracantha hedges: an evergreen shrub with edible berries. Between pyracantha “walls”, the green space is available to invite people and interact with them, a space divided into five different “rooms”.

At the main entrance, there is a LIVING ROOM with no sofas and TV, but where we have to spend our time in listening and reading.

The garden has a wood platform and a turfgrass, where we can sit for reading a book, a journal, or staying with a friend leaving the bad habit zapping TV! In this living room we have not to see virtual images, but we can see live performances: theatre and musical performances, poetry reading and other cultural events thanks to this platform. The space can be used for schoolmates and guided tours, for example environmental and ecological projects.

To have a lunch-time, we don’t think of a noisy bar, we can accommodate in a family COOKING. In the second room there are tables and wooden benches located under branches of plums and apples that, day after day, give us flowers and fruits. While we eat we can smell perfumes from the pantry, which contains herbs and vegetables. It will be easy to think how the farmer gives us healthy foods. A garden or an orchard give us better foods than a fast-food!

In the end we can use containers for recycling.

Out of the kitchen our eyes are caught by the reflection of the BATHROOM: a garden area that reminds to freshness. Through a walkway, we can walk on a tank of water recirculating where there are small water lilies, and medical plants are situated on the edges: calendula, mallow, chamomile, mint…  The plants chosen for this area have natural extracts, which are usually used in the production of creams, herbal teas and medicines for the care and the well-being of the body.

There is also a moment devoted to rest in the BEDROOM. We can’t resist after watching some hammocks hanging from the trunks of four holms: some relaxing time watching sunrays through trees forgetting stress. Here, there are the perfume and the relaxing colour of lavender plants. There is not an alarm clock, but there are the chirping of birds and the patter of squirrels that, attracted by berries, by acorns of oaks, and the presence of some little houses in the branches of the trees, choose this garden for living and finding shelter during the winter.

This open house is a special place for children, thanks to a ROOM OF GAMES. There aren’t computers and videogames, because it is a place where children can pay attention to nature’s elements that surround them, getting to know sensory characteristics. There are bushes of fragrant yellow, red and purple flowers, which attract colorful butterflies. There is also a sand-pool for creativity and manual skills: children can make mountains, castles and buildings with sand.

Dividing into five rooms, the urban green becomes a dedicated space and suitable for us, becomes our habitat. There aren’t borders between the house and the park: the green area has a domestic approach.

“hABITAt” is a suggest to join outdoor life with the own everyday life, adquiring a better lifestyle, and a mental-physical well-being.

The use of natural materials and low costs (wood, gravel, sand), the choice of plants (hardy, and low-water consumption) and the original design of spaces for this project, put users to reflect on values such as ecology and biodiversity, to pay attention to nature, to food, to body care, and to art expressions.

“hABITAt”  gives us the time for living the urban green as a place of experiences and sensations, offering a new viewpoint, more conscious and inspiring.

As we see from the title of the project, the park gives us a message, almost an imperative: “hABITAt” park wants to be inhabitated.
